We would like to recall that SOS-TORTURE/BURUNDI was initiated with the aim of informing national opinion and on serious violations of human rights in Burundi through monitoring reports, particularly on torture, Arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances, sexual violence and summary executions.
This initiative to inform the public about the realities of the country followed the slaughter of a hundred people killed during the day of 11th December and that of 12th December 2015 by police officers and soldiers on the pretext of prosecuting rebels who had just attacked military camps on the outskirts of the capital. Since then, violations of human rights have never ceased and are the subject of denunciations by various human rights organizations, both nationally and internationally.
